Exposing a facade of natural stone and glass on the outside and expressing minimalistic design on the inside – The Design Hotel of the Seaside Group, which opened in 2001 identifies itself through a puristic interior created by star designer Matteo Thun which harmonizes with the impressive overall architecture composed by the Jan Stoermer team of architects from Hamburg as well as the light installations from choreographer Robert Wilson, New York .
The eight-storied corpus of glass is held and over towered by a massive spinal column of stone. Formed by plains of light the design perfectly blends into the city’s ambience. 28 meters high and with an inspiring illumination the atrium forms the center of SIDE – Computerized changing impulses of light allow a whole new experience of space.
The implementation of different materials and surface textures, colourful highlights and damped lounge music form an exclusive ambience and are certain to appeal to one’s senses. Implicit natural light enhances the warm and cosy atmosphere which is found in all areas of the hotel.
The reductive design vocabulary abandons the use of handles, plinth or visible assemblies and implies distinct cubes as a focus on the overall architecture of the SIDE.
A number of interior design objects composed by Matteo Thun exclusively for the SIDE Hotel are purchasable and can be found in our in house Webshop “SIDE Collection.”
