Shorttrips in Hamburg
Short trip to Hamburg
Your perfect weekend in the Hanseatic city
Even in a short amount of time, Hamburg has a lot to offer. Whether you have two days, a long weekend or a short, spontaneous break, the most important attractions can easily be reached on foot or with just a few stops on the underground from the SIDE Design Hotel. A city break in Hamburg means water views, culture, good restaurants, exciting neighbourhoods and short distances. Read on for programme ideas, route suggestions and tips for a weekend to remember.
Your short trip to Hamburg: compact, diverse and easily accessible
Day 1: Arrival, orientation & first impressions
The best way to start your short trip to Hamburg is at the Alster. Just a few minutes from SIDE, you will find one of the city's most characteristic locations: water, sailing boats, wide paths and plenty of space for your first stroll. From here, the route continues to Jungfernstieg and the surrounding area, which is an ideal introduction to the city centre and its atmosphere.
For the evening, we recommend two routes: • Towards the Rathaus and Deichstraße areas, which offer quiet alleys, historic architecture and small restaurants. • Towards the St. Pauli and Reeperbahn areas, which offer bars, theatres, live music and long nights.

Day 2: The most important highlights in a short time
A city break thrives on clear priorities. The following classics are particularly suitable for the second day:
Elbphilharmonie Elbphilharmonie: Even without a concert, a visit is a must, as the view of the harbour, Speicherstadt and the Elbe is impressive in any weather and quickly gives you a feel for the city.
Speicherstadt & Kontorhausviertel The historic warehouses are among the most impressive places in Hamburg. Depending on how much time you have, it's worth taking a detour to the Miniatur Wunderland or simply taking a leisurely stroll across the bridges.
Landungsbrücken & Harbour For an inexpensive harbour tour, take the harbour ferry (line 62) to Finkenwerder and back. If you want to learn more about the city and the harbour, book a large habour tour with a tour guide.
Evening programme End the day with culture and cuisine at a musical, theatre show, concert or dinner in the city centre. Many cultural experiences are just a few stops away from the hotel.

Day 3: Discover neighbourhoods & café breaks
If you're here for a long weekend, there's plenty of time to explore some of Hamburg's most characteristic neighbourhoods:
St. Georg A colourful mix of cafés, small shops and international restaurants – ideal for late breakfasts or quiet walks.
Karoviertel & Schanze Relaxed, urban, creative. Boutiques, design and second-hand shops, and laid-back bars make the area diverse and authentic.
Ottensen A charming neighbourhood with old-world charm and many cosy spots to drink coffee and chat.

Day 4: Nature, excursions & a relaxed end to your trip
If you are spending four days in Hamburg, it is worth looking beyond the classic sights. Ideal for a relaxed end to your short break:
Övelgönne & Elbstrand Maritime flair, small beaches and cafés with views of passing ships – ideal for a quiet morning on the Elbe.
Blankenese & Treppenviertel Charming alleys, lots of steps and ever-changing views of the Elbe make this district one of Hamburg's most beautiful destinations.
Hafencity Modern architecture, wide promenades and lots of water – perfect for a final stroll and a relaxed farewell to the city.
The SIDE as the perfect starting point for your short break
Located in the city centre, it is within easy reach of almost all the highlights. The U2 underground line at Gänsemarkt station provides direct access to HafenCity, the main railway station, the exhibition grounds and many cultural venues. The Alster is just a few steps away, as are shops, restaurants and museums. This location is particularly convenient for weekend trips as you won't lose any time travelling – a clear advantage when you only have 48 or 72 hours in the city.
Packages and offers for short breaks
SIDE regularly offers special deals, allowing you to enjoy a stay at a lower price, culinary surprises and, of course, the use of our spa and wellness area.
